by Thomas, Chris; Poku-Amanfo, Victoria; Patel, Parth.Institute for Public Policy Research.
Publisher: IPPR, London : 2022.Description: 54p.Summary: The pandemic has rapidly accelerated an existing trend of decline in access and outcomes. This is creating the conditions for an ‘opt-out’ by those who have the means – embedding a two-tier system. There is near-universal public support for retaining a universal, free, comprehensive and tax-funded NHS. Our polling shows a consensus in public support for the basic principles of the NHS as a system that universalises the benefits of the best healthcare and shares the cost across the population. The report proposes policies designed to better live with Covid-19, to help build back better and to help prepare for the future. The proposals are based on three aims: recovery, building back better and increased sustainability facing an uncertain future..Subject(s): NHS | patient waiting time | access to health services | private sector | independent health care | financial problems | government policy | health policy | financing | Covid-19 | pandemics | chronic disease | cancer | mental illness | public health | digital health | sustainability | social care | future studiesDigital copyAvailability: Online access List(s) this item appears in: Covid-19: health and social care recovery in England [January 2023] | Improving care for long term conditions [August 2022] | Financial pressures in the NHS in England [January 2023] | Introduction to the NHS in England [February 2023]
